Friends of Music was born of the inspiration of E. Lisa Kovalik, a former resident of Stamford, a teacher at the Juilliard School of Music, and the wife of the late Dr. Thomas Kovalik.
Lisa’s enthusiasm resulted in recruiting a number of cooperating Stamford residents, as well as obtaining a valuable Steinway grand piano, through the generosity of the Robinson-Broadhurst Foundation, for concert use. In addition to Lisa Kovalik, Dorothy L. Aldrich, Don and Doris Blake, David C. Caddis, Dorothy Vaernewyck and Diane Wickham were the Friends of Music founders. After a short association with M.U.R.A.L. (Mt. Utsayantha Regional Arts League), in the latter part of 1986 Friends of Music decided to form their own entity subsequently incorporating and obtaining federal not-for-profit status.
The year 2006 is our 20th season, and we have grown in accomplishments through the years.
We have had numerous fine artists performing classical music on the piano and with chamber music instruments. Our audiences have enjoyed these performances, giving testimony to the fact by encores and standing ovations, as well as oral expressions of acclaim. Our focus is to enrich the cultural life of Stamford by presenting outstanding concerts of music. This we have been able to do, and endeavor to continue to present residents and guests of our local communities with music of a high caliber. Please join us for this year’s concerts!
